I wrote this in 07:::
diamond (in the ruff)
In the sand of the shore, sitting…waiting for what is to come
Being shaped and molded, slowly into what the future holds
What it holds for me, and whose I will be
From the hands of one to another and back, I wonder why I must
Continuously go back and forth between people and different situations
Sitting in a glass box in a jewelry store, being eyed by many
Being observed, admired, and watched for hours at a time
Being wanted by many men, but most can‘t afford the price
The price of a real diamond
Not the thing you can get in the 25 cent bubble machine
Because I am worth more than that
I belong with the special person that knows how to take care of me
Who knows how to care for me and keep me shining all the time
I am looking for the perfect person that knows the value of a true diamond
As soon as I am primed and polished and cut precisely,
With no blemish, no mark, ready to be with the one I am meant to be with,
There will be nothing left to want to change
Nothing that will replace me
Nothing that will make him turn his face, lusting after another
I will be the one that makes him feel better
Because I will be the right rock
not a ruby, a sapphire, or my immitater, the cubic zirconium
But for right now, I am a diamond in the ruff
Being shaped into the perfect shape
Colored the perfect color
Polished to shine and glisten,
Waiting for the right hand to be on
