Trapped By Tradition : CNN Special

“Often, young girls are pushed into the sex business by their own fathers and brothers. The men see nothing wrong with it.”

There is a special that will be airing on CNN entitles “Trapped by Tradition” that is talking about the prostitution industry in India. A crew of CNN reporters went to India with Slumdog Millionaire actor Anil Kapoor and will be looking at the lives of
young Indian girls who are forced into prostitution right after they start puberty.

This stems from a tradition that is ancient. The original reason was because they said it was a religious act. The reasoning for it now is money.

Plan India is aiding in the process of eliminating child prostitution in the country. Their model on their website is “Promoting child rights to end child poverty”.

CNN’s website says that this special will air on CNN Int’l (not sure if theyre saying it wont come on their regular channel or not).

Eat.Pray.Love quote

So, I’ve been reading the book Eat Pray Love. I know I uber late, but I want to read the book first before I see the movie (yeah, I’m lame; I haven’t seen the movie either). I’ve never been one to want to read the book first, and then see the movie because I get upset when the stories don’t match up! Like angry, like turn the movie off or put the book down, never to return to it (at least for a while) kind of angry lol

Anyway, I am still in the first section of the book, which takes place in Italy. (It seems like Italy has been a part of my life lately, with Jersey Shore, Mob Wives and Dominic from Big Brother J and what not).

The quote I want to share is something she is writing in a notebook. Basically, she is visited by emotions she so desperately wants to get away from and to help deal with life in general, she writes. She says she has this inner voice, but she’s not sure who or what it is. The possibilities for her are God, her guru, her higher self, etc. but when I read this quote, I instantly knew who it was speaking to her.

I’m here. I love you. I don’t care if you need to stay up crying all night long, I will stay with you. If you need the medication again, go ahead and take it- I will love you through that, as well. If you don’t need the medication, I will love you, too. There’s nothing you can ever do to lose my love. I will protect you until you die and after your death I will still protect you. I am stronger than Depression and I am braver than Loneliness and nothing will exhaust me.
